London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013

Simone Rocha - London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013

Designer du jour Simone Rocha had a storming last season and delivered the style goods again for Spring Summer 2013 opening with crisp cotton whites,

bursting into golds and tans before unveiling her playful side with pops of neon yellows and oranges. Crochet, sheer panelling, weaving and mesh gave the collection texture,

while a strong silhouette remains at the heart of her signature. We predict even more great things to come from this designer.

London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013

Mulberry - London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013

While last season took a walk where the wild things are, Spring Summer 2013 at Mulberry was a nostalgic journey into the brand's heritage - back to the 70s by way of a beautiful English country garden.

Sorbet coloured garden gnomes greeted guests arriving at the Claridges Ballroom lining the way into the show, while an exquisite floral festooned tree guarded the entrance to the runway. Enchanting to its very core, in true Mulberry form, the front row drew a starry crowd with Alexa Chung shoulder-to-shoulder with Kate Moss, who in turn was flanked by Lana Del Rey, Rebecca Hall, Daisy Lowe and Gillian Anderson.

And Emma Hill knew just how to delight the crowd, sending tropical-inspired gecko prints down the runway, mingling with 'school-uniform' neutrals in biscuit, navy and tan, contrasted with blossom pastels in pear, cream berry and peach. Coats were given a heritage military twist, layered textures gave a nod to the 70s vibe, while pleats, frills and embroidered detailing kept the collection quintessentially feminine.

The Willow Tote made its elegant and oh-so practical debut, complete with a zip detachable envelope clutch, while the trademark Mulberry Postman's lock got a floral makeover with petals. And for fans of the Lily, the Cecily's chic chain strap and cookie-cut edge, is a must for the new season.

Ola Brasil! Farfetch Showcases South American Style

Although we're in the throws of Couture and gearing up for Fall trends, the reality is that we're in the heat of summer and the nearest, lightest, prettiest pieces are what are on our collective style agendas. Global e-tailer Farfetch.com is mixing up their Margiela and Balmain offerings with a dose of something South American in the form of a capsule collection from nine emerging Brazilian designers — Copa Club, Joge, Rafael Falci, Brigitte, Adriana Degreas, Juliana Jabour, Reinaldo Lorenco, Talie NK and Lino Villaventura — as part of the Ola Brasil project. The playful one-piece look above is by Juliana Jabour, just one of the designers whose wares are on display as part of the site's efforts to bring attention to compelling new talent. After all, if there's one place to turn for help in looking chic during bikini season, it has to be Brazil.

Brazilian Fashion – Trends with a South American Flavour

Brazilian fashion is mostly associated with bright color. Floral designs and different printed patterns are also commonly found in Brazilian clothes. Brazilian beach wears are also quite popular among people across the world.

Brazilian Fashion - Flamboyance and Splendor

The residents of Brazil love to wear bright colored attires and their dresses often have dramatic patterns and cuts. Brazilian fashion puts great importance on fitting accessories as well. The fashion in Brazil varies according to the region. However, the general Brazilian fashion has a tendency towards unisex attire. Casual clothing is quite popular in Rio. In areas like Sao Paolo people dress up in a more quirky manner. In Northern Brazil women’s fashion does not include trousers. They usually go for snazzy top and shorts. In most of the places in Brazil people like to wear good looking attire and that includes the elderly lot. It is not uncommon to see grandmothers wearing miniskirts. Women in Brazil usually wear nice sandals that complement their dress. The young women in Brazil prefer wearing jeans that fit snugly on their figure. In Brazil, fashion scene does not entertain attire with muted and dull colors in general. Wearing T-shirts with western phrases, designs and symbols go well. It is also okay to wear skimpy outfits in beaches in Brazil. Beachwear is popular on Brazil as the country has a number of sprawling sandy beaches.

Woolies Scoop – Holiday Summer Dressing

In a few days, I’m off to beautiful Cape Town to enjoy some much-needed R&R with my hubby, and I’m sure many of you have summer holidays planned this festive season.

But what do you wear? What do you pack? Where do you shop? Well, I’m happy to report that I was at Woolworths the other day, scouting for some essential summer holiday pieces for my trip, and I found just about everything I need to make it a summer of fun!
You’ll find beautiful dresses, gorgeous fitting swimsuits and accessories that will add that je ne sais quoi to your holiday dressing.
What I’m really loving is how most of these pieces work together, and by simply slipping on a pair of heels, adding a cinched belt and metallic bag, how easy it is to take your day dress to a bar-approved look, fit for a night of cocktails and dancing at St Yves in Cape Town.
Take a look…

Black & White Delight

When in doubt wear black and white! This polka dot bikini (R150 top and R100 shorts) will have you looking hot on the beach. Just add a gorgeous white sun hat (R99.95) and you’re ready to rock those waves.
Going for sundowners at the bar afterwards? Just slip on this easy black and white contrasting print kaftan (R250) and layer with two strands of freshwater pearls (R220 each including stud earrings).

Tropical Heat

Beat the heat with this season’s hottest colour mix; coral, orange and hot pink! Mix it up with pops of yellow for a truly tropical sensation.
This pink one-piece swimsuit (R250) is anything but plain! I love the tie detail in the front. Pair it with an oversized sun hat (R120) and this beautiful sarong (R120) for an eye-catching beach outfit.

Tribal Prints

This multi coloured printed dress (R150) was one of my absolute fave pieces at Woolies. It’s pretty, it’s girly and it can be worn as a day dress with flats, or transformed into a fabulous dress for dinner with friends.
To take it from day to night, all I did was cinch it in at the waist using this very versatile belt (R99.95), added this beautiful Studio.W metallic leather clutch (R699) and a gold loop necklace, Studio.W (R120) that picks up the belt loops and metallic clutch.
This dress is a winner if you want to cut down on packing space for your trip!

The Maxi Dress

If you’re not already sporting this summers’ must-do dress trend, the Maxi, then this one from Suga Suga (R375) is a great option, thanks to its wonderful mix of colour and African inspired prints.
It already has a built-in belt, so doesn’t need too much styling, but a pretty beaded necklace (R89.95) and an oversized sun hat (R130) adds a nice touch.

Summer Sizzlers – Ladylike Fashion at Woolies

The 50′s are back in style and this summer it’s time to awaken your feminine side and work the trends like a lady!

This 50′s Stripe Skater Dress (R225) is an absolute summer essential! With its bright candy stripes you’re sure to look on trend while still beating the heat!
How to wear the trend
We love how these fashion style bloggers are wearing this trend…
  1. Belted at the waist with a trendy neon belt like Olga from myblondegal.com
  2. Minimal accessories with a bright fitted jacket (perfect for the evening) and summer sandals like districtofchic.com
  3. Play it cool like Natalie from lucyandtherunaways.blogspot.com and keep your bag and shoes neutral. Add an extra pop of style to update your outfit to 2012 with a multi-coloured belt and oh-so-chic aviator sunnies.
  4.

Turn up the (ankle) heat and give your jeans a break this summer! Nothing says casual-cool more than a pair of chic and stylish crop pants. We love all the beautiful colours of crop pants that Woolies have on offer this season, but we’re especially fond of the contrasting belt! My fave feature of this pair of Belted Crop Pants (R275) from Woolworths’ Modern Wardrobe is the faux pockets on the back and the front. They ensure that the pants look stylish and tailored without the added bulk, besides, that’s what handbags are for…
How to wear the trend
Pair your cropped pants with a pair of cute flats, ladylike heels and a gorgeous ladylike blouse or button up shirt. We love how these three bloggers work the cropped pants trend…
  1. Colour blocking cool! We love how Layla from chicchefblog.com styles her bright cropped magenta pants with a sheer peach blouse and gorgeous chunky chain necklace.
  2. Add a little quirky fun to your outfit with a fun shirt like Aisa from aisaipac.com. Love the flats and tribly hat!
  3. My fave outfit and so, so ladylike is from classy-fabulous.com. She’s nailed the feminine look by pairing her cropped pants with a skinny belt, beautiful shirt and boyfriend blazer, all in pretty pastel colours!
  4.
So delicious, I could eat them up! These primp and pretty Pastel Pumps (R140) are a great way to add some yummy colour to your outfits this summer. Wear them with pretty skater skirts and dresses, cropped pants, jeans or your shorts!

Looking for another pair of versatile summer shoes? These black and white Polka Dot Bow Platforms (R375) are perfect. They would also look great with your cropped pants and summer dresses.
A huge trend loved by fashionistas this season is mismatching prints. Try pair up your patterned shoes (polka dot, stripes or even animal print) with cute floral dresses, it looks great!
To ace the 50′s summer look, these four pieces make great closet investments. They can be worn in so many different ways, but we even like this look combining all four. We’re especially fond of the super cute floral skater skirt and the even cuter crossbody bag!
